See what you owe once you pass nisab
Calculate zakat on cash savings that have been held for one full lunar year (haul) and exceed the nisab threshold.
zakat = 2.5% × savings balance, if the balance has been held for one full lunar year (haul) and meets the nisab
What is "haul"?
Haul is the requirement that wealth be held for one full Islamic (lunar) year before zakat becomes due on it — money you've only had for a few months does not yet qualify, even if it exceeds the nisab.
Does a joint account complicate this?
Generally each owner calculates zakat on their own share of a joint account — enter only your portion of the balance here, not the full joint total.
What if my balance dropped below nisab partway through the year?
This varies by school of thought and state ruling — some require the balance to stay above nisab for the entire haul, others only check at the start and end. Check your state zakat authority for the specific method they follow.
