Frequently asked questions

Is zakat the same as income tax?
No — zakat is a separate religious obligation, not a government tax. Some states let you claim zakat paid as a tax rebate on your LHDN filing, but that offset isn't calculated here.

What's the nisab threshold?
Nisab is the minimum wealth level a Muslim must have before zakat becomes obligatory, traditionally set as the value of 85 grams of gold. It moves with the gold price, so it's re-published periodically by each state zakat authority.

Should I use my gross or net income?
It depends on your state's ruling — some (like Selangor and Federal Territory) commonly use a net-income method that allows deducting basic necessities and debt obligations first, entered here as "Deductible expenses". Check your own state authority for the method that applies to you.
